Hello, and welcome to The Haddock Site.

This blog is a mix of my data work, other people’s work that’s caught my attention, and mostly a space to practice data crunching and visualisation. The throughline is simple: take open data, place it in context, and let it speak for itself, without rushing to a bold conclusion. Feel free to use anything here; the data is almost always open-source, drawn from an Asian context. Every now and then you might also find a note on my academic publications.
I started this site to get back into visualisation, a habit I’d let slip for a while. Data storytelling aside, I also draw and paint mostly with oil pastels and some of that will probably wander in here too, alongside the charts.
As for the name: no grand reasoning behind it. I was scrolling through types of fish for dinner one evening, landed on haddock, and thehaddocksite followed from there.
